Biography:
I was born on March 15, 1959. in Koper, Slovenia.
I was educated in Zagreb, where I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zagreb. Immediately after finishing my studies, I enrolled in a postgraduate course in oncology.
In 1994, I started specializing in anesthesia, resuscitation and intensive care at the University Hospital Center Zagreb. Since 1997, I have been appointed junior assistant in the associate position at the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation; for the course Anesthesiology and resuscitation, Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb. I passed the specialist exam in 1998.
In 1999, I was sent by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia, as well as the UHC Zagreb, to UH Leeds for education on liver transplantation.
In 2001, I was sent by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia and UHC Zagreb to UH Grosshadern, Munich for education on the entire transplant program.
In 2006, I was appointed hospital transplant coordinator of UHC Zagreb.
In 2007, I stayed in Barcelona on the TPM Course, where I passed the European exam in the donor program, thus becoming a European certified transplant coordinator.
In 2008, I received the City of Zagreb Award for my contribution in the field of kidney transplantation. From 2008-2019, I was the representative of the Republic of Croatia in Eurotransplant’s Ethics Committee.
Since 2009, I have been an active participant in the education of colleagues from the neighboring countries of Southeast Europe; Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, for the field of transplantation medicine.
Since 2012, I have been the coordinator of international cooperation in the field of transplant medicine, and together with the kidney transplant team of UHC Zagreb, I established the kidney transplant program in Montenegro.
In 2012, I passed the European exam for the donor program and the European exam for the transplant program with the European certificate in front of the international commission.
In 2013, I received the Podgorica City Award for my contribution to the establishment of kidney transplantation in the Republic of Croatia.
In 2015, I received the City of Zagreb Award as a member of all transplant teams of KBC Zagreb (kidney, heart, liver).
In 2017, in front of the initiative committee, I founded the Section for Anesthesiology in Transplantation Medicine at the Croatian Society for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (HDAIL) and was appointed head of the said section.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the MEF of the University of Zagreb, I was given the honor of receiving the Medicine Award for Humanity and Ethics for 2017 on behalf of UHC Zagreb.
For many years I have been a member of the Expert Council, as well as the Quality Committee of UHC Zagreb.
I am the head of the Department for coordination of transplants and explant at UHC Zagreb.
In my professional life as an anesthesiologist, I participated in the transplantation of 100 organs (liver and kidney).
As an organ transplant coordinator at UHC Zagreb in the past 17 years, I participated in the implementation of 1,500 solid organ transplants.
